Justin well-received host and musical-guest appearance on "Saturday Night Live" this past weekend.Justin Timberlake may have served up the smoothest diss ever to Kanye West during his "Saturday Night Live" performance.

While performing his new single "Suit & Tie," which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Timberlake, 32, changed a lyric from " --- so sick/got a hit and picked up a habit" to "My hit's so sick got rappers acting dramatic."

Last month during a show in London, West went on a freestyle rant and brought up Timberlake's collaboration with Jay-Z, 'Suit & Tie,' saying, 'I got love for Hov, but I ain't f--kin' with that 'Suit & Tie.

West's diss came after Timberlake and Jay-Z dropped the "Suit & Tie" single, performed together at the Grammys and announced their 12-date Legends of the Summer tour. In 2011, it was West who was touring with Jay-Z following the release of "Watch the Throne." He didn't make an appearance at the Grammys, saying during his rant, "The Grammys can suck my d--k."

Nominees for the 70th annual Golden Globes :

Best director :

Oscar nominees Steven Spielberg ("Lincoln") and Ang Lee ("Life of Pi") are up against three directors the Academy Awards snubbed Thursday -- Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty"), Quentin Tarantino ("Django Unchained") and Ben Affleck ("Argo").

Spielberg likely will win -- although, really, it should be Bigelow. "I find her to be an incredibly modern storyteller who takes on weighty subjects and makes profound films," her leading lady, Jessica Chastain, said at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards this week. "Being on set with Kathryn is a master class."


Best motion picture -- drama :

The five contenders are "Argo," "Django Unchained," "Life of Pi," "Lincoln" and "Zero Dark Thirty."

"Lincoln" is the favorite. But the drama that should win is "Zero Dark Thirty," which had to be revised when real life intervened with the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound.

History's never harder to write than when it hasn't been fully written yet -- or when it has only recently been declassified. "It's about the unsung heroes of the intelligence community," director Kathryn Bigelow said at the National Board of Review Awards this week. "This is about the people who work in the shadows, and will continue to work in the shadows."

Best motion picture -- comedy or musical

The contenders are "Les Miserables," "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," "Moonrise Kingdom," "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" and "Silver Linings Playbook."

It's a little unfair that a great musical has to go up against a great dramedy. At least "Silver Linings Playbook" (which should win) will be trounced by "Les Miserables" (which will win) instead of "Lincoln," which likely will best both come Oscar time.


Best screenplay :

The Globes distinguish between dramas and comedies/musicals in the best picture and leading acting categories, but not between original and adapted screenplay. It's a fierce competition and perhaps slightly unfair to those who didn't have a book, article or other movie as a springboard for their work.

The team of rivals here include Tony Kushner for "Lincoln" (based upon Doris Kearns Goodwin's book), David O. Russell for "Silver Linings Playbook" (based upon Matthew Quick's novel), Chris Terrio for "Argo" (based upon Joshuah Bearman's article in Wired), Tarantino for "Django Unchained" (inspired by the 1966 spaghetti Western "Django") and Mark Boal for "Zero Dark Thirty" (based upon his own reporting).

Kushner will win, but Boal should. "Mark Boal researched this film from the ground up, with a diligence and a meticulous fervor that certainly was inspiring on the page," Bigelow said.

Best performance by an actor -- drama :

The leading men in the drama category are Daniel Day-Lewis ("Lincoln"), Denzel Washington ("Flight"), Joaquin Phoenix ("The Master") and two who were snubbed by Oscar -- Richard Gere ("Arbitrage") and John Hawkes ("The Sessions").

Day-Lewis is the clear favorite, and even money says the notoriously method actor will win. "On the last shot of the last day, minutes after the film was completely done, Daniel embraced me and spoke to me for the first time in four months with his English accent," Spielberg said. "That made me cry even harder."

But what about someone who has been less talked about winning, another method actor like Phoenix?

"He is a wonderful actor," said his "Master" co-star Amy Adams. "He was so invested and entrenched in being this unhinged person. His performance in this is beyond anything I've ever seen before."

Best performance by an actress -- drama :

The competitors are Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty"), Marion Cotillard ("Rust and Bone"), Helen Mirren ("Hitchcock"), Naomi Watts ("The Impossible") and Rachel Weisz ("The Deep Blue Sea").

Of these, only Chastain and Watts have Oscar nods, but Chastain has the edge. "Zero Dark Thirty" is a procedural, however, and despite Chastain being a great actress, it's not the best showcase of her work.

But Cotillard has never given a finer performance as a woman who loses her legs in a tragic accident. "It's really about her relationship to her body," Cotillard told CNN. "Before, she was empty, because she didn't enjoy her life. And after, she had to learn to live again. She has a fuller life without legs. It's an unconventional love story."

Best performance by an actor -- comedy or musical :

If only the great comedians didn't have to go up against the great musical performers, because there's only one leading man in this category who's both funny and sings: Jack Black for "Bernie."

Black's competition includes Hugh Jackman ("Les Miserables"), Bradley Cooper ("Silver Linings Playbook"), Ewan McGregor ("Salmon Fishing in the Yemen") and Bill Murray ("Hyde Park on Hudson").

Jackman will win for his portrayal of Jean Valjean, but the most truly insane performance of the year belongs to Cooper. DiCaprio called it "unbelievable." Josh Brolin called Cooper "amazing." We call him another should-be winner.

Best performance by an actress -- comedy or musical :

Jennifer Lawrence, Cooper's "Silver Linings" co-star, has some stiff competition in this category -- Meryl Streep ("Hope Springs"), Maggie Smith ("Quartet"), Judi Dench ("The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel") and Emily Blunt ("Salmon Fishing in the Yemen").

Despite facing off against such heavyweights, Lawrence should win for her portrayal of a promiscuous widow with a depressive disorder who ropes Cooper into a dance competition. "When she came over the transom with her Skype audition, I was like, 'Oh my God, who is this?' " director David O. Russell said. "Even though I had seen her on the Oscar circuit (for 'Winter's Bone'), I never understood who she was, and she showed up on Skype dressed as the character and knocked me out. She's a weapon waiting to be fired."

Best performance by an actress in a supporting role :

And here the separation between drama and comedy/musical ends -- too bad for anyone who isn't Anne Hathaway ("Les Miserables").

Hathaway's competitors include Amy Adams ("The Master"), Sally Field ("Lincoln"), Helen Hunt ("The Sessions") and Nicole Kidman ("The Paperboy"). Kidman is the only one here who didn't make it in the Oscar nominations -- Jacki Weaver ("Silver Linings Playbook") replaced her for the nod.

Only Field seems geared up to give Hathaway a run for her money. Her turn as Mary Lincoln was a tour de force.

Best performance by an actor in a supporting role :

The supporting actor nominees are Alan Arkin ("Argo"), Tommy Lee Jones ("Lincoln"), Philip Seymour Hoffman ("The Master") and Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio (both for "Django Unchained"), with only the latter (and the youngest) not receiving an Oscar nod this year.

Jones is the clear favorite for his portrayal of Thaddeus Stevens, with Hoffman not far behind as the charismatic leader of a cult. But Waltz's performance as a German bounty hunter in the Deep South had more meat to it.

Best animated feature film :

There's no clear consensus in this category on which movie should win. "Brave," "Frankenweenie," "Hotel Transylvania," "Rise of the Guardians" and "Wreck-It Ralph" all have a good shot, even if "Brave" might the closest thing to a favorite.

But "Frankenweenie," Tim Burton's passion project that began as one of the director's first short films before becoming a full-length feature almost 30 years later, is the only one to have been part of a popular, if macabre, Museum of Modern Art exhibition.

Best foreign-language film :

With the Oscar nominations, "Amour" broke out of the foreign-language category and infiltrated the best picture field, so it's a clear favorite here -- one that should win.

Although the film is an Austrian entry, thanks to director Michael Haneke, "Amour" is in French, and its lovely competitors include "A Royal Affair" (Denmark), "Kon-Tiki" (Norway), "The Intouchables" (France) and "Rust and Bone" (also France).

If there is an upset, expect it to be from one of the French rivals since all three deal with the bonds between disabled people and the caretakers who love them (in different ways ).

Best original score :

John Williams ("Lincoln"), Dario Marianelli ("Anna Karenina"), Alexandre Desplat ("Argo"), Mychael Danna ("Life of Pi") and Tom Tykwer, Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil (all for "Cloud Atlas") are the nominees.

Williams -- the most celebrated of the bunch -- will win for creating a score accurate to the musical sensibilities of the 19th century. But the "Cloud Atlas" trio had to create something described in David Mitchell's book as a piece for six instrumental voices, with each solo interrupted by its successor, only to be recontinued in order (just like the book and movie's plot).

Put another way, that's six separate plots in six separate genres, serving as the connective tissue of the larger story. It should win, hands down.

Best original song :

Keith Urban and Monty Powell ("For You," from "Act of Valor"), Bon Jovi ("Not Running Anymore," from "Stand Up Guys"), Taylor Swift ("Safe & Sound," from "The Hunger Games") and Adele ("Skyfall," from "Skyfall") are up against the "Les Miserables" juggernaut, which has a new original song in "Suddenly."

The latter's director, Tom Hooper, said, "In the novel, there's an extraordinary description of what it's like for Jean Valjean to discover what it's like to love a child who is in his care, and I felt it was the one thing in the original musical that was slightly underplayed. I asked Claude-Michel Schonberg if they could write a song to show this evolution, and here it is."

"Suddenly" will win -- if "Skyfall" doesn't -- but wouldn't it be a thrill if Swift and "The Hunger Games" could be like Katniss Everdeen in the arena, and come out the surprise victor? May the odds be ever in their favor.

Sandy Weill: Banks break up theory

Former Citigroup chairman Sandy Weill -- who engineered a series of corporate takeovers and lobbying efforts to create Citigroup -- explained during an interview on CNBC why he now thinks a firewall between commercial and investment banks is needed.

"What we should probably do is go and split up investment banking from banking," Weill said. "Have banks do something that's not going to risk the taxpayer dollars, that's not too big to fail."Weill's call to break up the nation's largest banks comes a little more than a decade after he helped orchestrate the merger of Travelers Group and Citicorp, a deal that created what was the world's largest financial services company.

The deal was not have been possible with Glass-Steagall, a Depression-era law that prevented commercial banks from dabbling in investment banking, on the books.But after intense lobbying by Weill and his associates, Congress repealed the act in 1999. Some critics argue that its demise paved the way for deposit-taking banks to make colossal bad bets, while bank traders chased profits and big bonuses.Citigroup, where Weill would serve as chairman until 2006, would eventually receive taxpayer-funded bailouts during the financial crisis.On Wednesday, Weill attributed many of the problems faced by banks in the run-up to the financial crisis to over-leveraging and a lack of transparency. The end result, he said, is a banking system that now lacks innovation and is distrusted by the public.

 Weill said he hasn't discussed his views with current Citigroup (C, Fortune 500) CEO Vikram Pandit or JPMorgan's (JPM, Fortune 500) Jamie Dimon.

The comments from Weill, who also served on New York Fed Board of Governors, indicate a remarkable evolution in his thoughts on the risks posed by large financial institutions.The New York Times has reported that as recently as 2010, Weill had a 4-foot wide portrait of himself hanging in his office that was etched with the words "The Shatterer of Glass-Steagall."But on Wednesday, Weill said that current conditions demand something new."Well, you know I think the world changes, and the world that we live in now is different than the world we lived in 10 years ago," Weill said.

Joe Paterno statue removed from Penn Staten | News Online

Penn State University’s statue of legendary football coach Joe Paterno was removed from campus Sunday morning in the wake of an investigation that harshly criticized Paterno for failing to take action in the sex abuse case of his former assistant coach, Jerry Sandusky.

Penn State president Rodney Erickson issued a statement shortly before the statue was removed that said, “Coach Paterno’s statue has become a source of division and an obstacle to healing in our university and beyond. For that reason, I have decided that it is in the best interest of our university and public safety to remove the statue and store it in a secure location.”

The bronze statue, an image of Paterno running out of the locker room with his players in tow, was toppled onto its side and is being carried out by a forklift.

In response to the statue’s removal, Paterno’s family issued this statement: “Tearing down the statue of Joe Paterno does not serve the victims of Jerry Sandusky’s horrible crimes or help heal the Penn State Community. We believe the only way to help the victims is to uncover the full truth.”

The statement goes on to say that Paterno never had a hearing, and only selective evidence has been made public. The Freeh report, Paterno’s family says, is not the equivalent of a fair trial, although it has been accepted by the media as the definitive conclusion on the Sandusky scandal.

“It is not the University’s responsibility to defend or protect Joe Paterno. But they at least should have acknowledged that important legal cases are still pending and that the record on Joe Paterno, the Board and other key players is far from complete,” the statement reads.

Several fans of the late coach showed up with their rally cry, chanting, “We are Penn State.”

Usher's stepson Kile Glover dies in hospital 2 weeks after lake accident

 following a traumatic head injury suffered during a jet-ski accident
, the 11-year-old boy died
 of heart failure on Saturday.The boy was run over July 6 by a personal watercraft on Lake Lanier, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. He had been hospitalized with a major brain injury. Lake Lanier is about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta. Authorities said the accident continues under investigation.

Given the seriousness of his injury, which resulted from blunt trauma to the head after Glover was hit by a jet-ski while floating in an inner tube on Atlanta's Lake Lanier, a neurologist told about the prospects for victims of such major brain injuries.

"There is no one that has been declared brain dead that has survived to being functional," said neurologist Dr. Brent Masel, national director of the Brain Injury Association of America and medical director of the Transitional Learning Center of Galveston, Texas several days before Glover was pronounced dead. "They will not get better."
Masel, who was not treating Glover and had no first-hand knowledge of the case, explained that the prognosis in such cases is so grim because of the make-up of the brain. "When someone is declared brain dead, it's not that their brain is not functioning at all," he said. "There are two components to the brain, the cerebrum, which is the thinking part and the brain stem, which narrows and becomes the spinal cord."

The stem is the automatic part, which controls respiration and heart rate and someone can technically live without a functioning cerebrum, which is not unusual in such injuries. "The thinking part of the brain is no longer functioning and all the patient has functioning is the brain stem," he said. "Very often what happens when you're deciding if someone is brain dead, you take them off the respirator and they're not even breathing and the only thing going is their heart, which will stop functioning if you're not breathing."

Before the accident, Usher, whose full name is Usher Raymond, had been in a legal battle with his ex-wife arising from a custody fight over their two sons.
Condolences flooded social media sites late Saturday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. It said those who sent tweets of condolences included Justin Bieber, singer Toni Braxton and singer Eric Benet, among others.

The top-three players in the world were paired together for the first two rounds at the U.S. Open Championship.  After Thursday's first round, at least two of them might like to run and hide. World No. 3 Lee Westwood had the best round of the group as he carded a three- over 73 to end tied for 40th.

'These are the very same charges and the same witnesses that the Justice Department chose not to pursue after a two-year investigation.'He added: ‘These charges are baseless, motivated by spite and advanced through testimony bought and paid for by promises of anonymity and immunity.'

Armstrong said that he believes the USADA is motivated by its belief that a 'wide-ranging conspiracy' has been protecting him for nearly two decades.'I have never doped, and, unlike many of my accusers, I have competed as an endurance athlete for 25 years with no spike in performance, passed more than  500 drug tests and never failed one.

Armstrong claimed that the witnesses cited by the USADA were identical to the ones who gave sworn statements to federal investigators in California from which no criminal charges were filed.'That USADA ignores this fundamental distinction and charges me instead of the admitted dopers says far more about USADA, its lack of fairness and this vendetta than it does about my guilt or innocence.'

In a 15-page letter sent to Armstrong on Tuesday, the USADA alleged that blood samples collected from him during competitions in 2009 and 2010 were 'fully consistent with blood manipulation including erythropoietin (EPO) use and/or blood transfusions.'

According to the original report of the charge sheet in The Washington Post, the USADA alleges that it has sworn witnesses to the fact that Armstrong and five former cycling team associates, including Italian doctor Michele Ferrari and cycling team manager Johann Bruyneel embarked on a conspiracy to conceal doping from 1998 to 2011.If Armstrong contests the allegations then he will be entitled to a trial where evidence will be presented by witnesses under oath and
could be in public or in private depending on Armstrong.

A USADA spokesman told The Daily Breeze that the organisation will continue to pursue its probe.The charges caused the World Triathlon Corporation to suspend Armstrong from all their sanctioned competitions pending resolution of the case. The letter Armstrong received from the USADA alleges that 'multiple riders with firsthand knowledge' can testify to Armstrong using
the performance enhancing drug EPO, blood transfusions and masking agents.

Armstrong won the Tour de France from 1999 to 2005 while riding for the U.S. Postal service team and the Discovery Channel Team and has strenuously
denied using performance enhancing drugs or blood doping during his cycling career.

Nato summit at chicago

Ryan Dempster hasn't broken into the victory column after six starts this season, and the winless stretch for the Chicago Cubs righty stretches 15 appearances going back to last season.
Dempster will try to finally end the run tonight when the Cubs entertain the White Sox in the second portion of this weekend's series. He is 0-7 over the 15-game span, and hasn't been on the positive side of a decision since Aug. 11 against Washington. Most recently, Dempster threw six innings at St. Louis in a no-decision on Monday.

In 13 games (6 starts) against the White Sox, Dempster has logged a 2-4 record with three saves and a 4.89 ERA.

Trying to end a personal four-game run without a triumph, John Danks takes the mound for the White Sox. The 27-year-old left-hander didn't get a decision on Monday against Detroit when he allowed five runs on nine hits over just three- plus innings. The White Sox won that game 7-5, but Danks is riding a personal 0-2 mark over his last four appearances.
Over his career, Danks is 2-1 with a 2.88 ERA in four starts against the Cubs.

Yesterday, Gordon Beckham spoiled Kerry Wood's retirement with a go-ahead, solo homer in the eighth as the White Sox took a 3-2 victory.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the eighth, Beckham lifted Jeff Samardzija's splitter into the bleachers in left field to give the White Sox a one-run edge.
"I'm glad it came when it did," Beckham said about his homer. "It was just good to help the team win. That's what is important to me."

After Samardzija walked Adam Dunn, Wood entered for presumably the last time. The 34-year-old announced before the game that he was planning on retiring after his next appearance.
He fanned Dayan Viciedo on three pitches before being removed to a standing ovation from the Wrigley Field faithful with his son Justin on the top step of the dugout to great him.

"It was time," remarked Wood after the game. "We saw how things were going this year. I definitely didn't want to go out with my last inning being me throwing my glove in the seats. I thank the organization and I thank Dale (Sveum) for giving me the opportunity to do that."

Samardzija (4-2) took the loss after tossing 7 1/3 innings and yielding three runs on six hits with eight strikeouts. He also knocked in a run as the Cubs dropped their fourth straight.
The White Sox have won three consecutive season series against their Windy City series rival and are 16-6 over the last 22 games overall. The ChiSox have won six of the last eight at Wrigley Field.

''Desperate Housewives' finale series on sunday.

NEW YORK (AP) — There was nothing desperate about this finale. ABC's "Desperate Housewives" concluded its rocky, racy and macabre eight-season run with a tidy, affectionate send-off.

For those who haven't yet made their farewell visit to Wisteria Place, be advised: Plot spoilers from Sunday's finale await.

Suffice it to say, everyone seems destined to live happily ever after. At least, with the exception of Karen McCluskey (Kathryn Joosten), the cranky but lovable senior who was battling cancer. But she dies peacefully at home, the way she wanted, with a favorite Johnny Mathis record serenading her.

By this point, she has saved the day for Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross), who was on trial for murder — an accidental homicide that was actually committed by Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira), the husband of Bree's fellow housewife, Gabrielle (Eva Longoria).

Bree was prepared to loyally take the fall for her friends, but, at the last moment, Karen steps in and confesses to the crime.

Besides her false confession, Karen voices on the stand a tender summary of life in the "Desperate Housewives" neighborhood: "It's not just a bunch of houses in the same place. It's a community — people who care about each other."

The charges are dropped against Bree, who overcomes her fear of commitment and settles down with her cute lawyer, Trip (Scott Bakula), after he assures her that her tarnished past doesn't bother him: "All those ugly details you're talking about, they just prove that you're human," he says lovingly.

Lynette (Felicity Huffman) and Tom (Doug Savant), whose marriage seemed on the rocks, reconcile passionately in the middle of Wisteria Lane in the romantic glow of streetlights.

Preparations are afoot for the gala marriage of Renee (Vanessa Williams) and Ben (Charles Mesure), with all the expected hysteria and confusion. For instance, en route to the ceremony in a stretch limo, Renee's expensive wedding gown is soaked by pregnant Julie seated beside her, whose water inconveniently breaks. But with Gabrielle as an accomplice, Renee steals a replacement gown from a bridal store.

Then Julie (Andrea Lauren Bowen), the daughter of Susan (Teri Hatcher), gives birth at the hospital as, in cross-cuts, the wedding reception takes place and Karen breathes her last. Life, nuptials, and death: a bittersweet confluence.

The ratings and heat that greeted "Desperate Housewives" eight years ago have faded during the series' run. The season finale for its first year drew more than 30 million viewers, while, this season, the series has averaged 8.5 million each week.

But Sunday's two-hour finale (whose second hour was written by series creator Marc Cherry) was a reminder of why "Desperate Housewives" struck such a chord with its arrival in fall 2004.

It burst on the scene as a lighthearted soufflé of blackmail, lust, adultery and sisterhood; as TV's go-to address for sexy suburban angst. It hooked America from its first-place premiere airing when, among many twists, its series-long narrator (neighbor Mary Alice Young, portrayed by Brenda Strong) gave a play-by-play of her own suicide.

Then, as now, at the heart of this throbbing universe are the four titular housewives: overwrought career woman and weary mom Lynette; sexy, spoiled spitfire Gabrielle; goodhearted bubble-head Susan; and wired-too-tight homemaker Bree.

All of them have gone through so much, yet managed to stay rooted, as hordes of other characters came and went through the years. (Accelerating things, the time frame skipped forward by five years midway through the series' 8-season run.)

But that's all over. All four women (we are told) will soon scatter, living out their lives elsewhere, but happily.

The first to exit: Susan, the only member of the foursome who leaves without a partner by her side.

"Do I have one last torrid romance in me? Maybe," she tells daughter Julie wistfully. "But I know if I am ever old and lonely, I can wrap myself up in all those memories (of life on Wisteria Lane), and I will be content."

She has sold her home to a young married couple. But the wife, named Jennifer, confides misgivings at moving to the suburbs.

"I'm a little worried it's going to be boring," she tells Susan.

"Oh, I wouldn't worry about that," replies Susan with a knowing smile.

And, indeed, new housewife Jennifer seems to be bringing her own secrets and woes to the block — at least, if the series' final shot of her stricken expression and a mysterious box are any indication.

What a relief as the show comes to a close! Just because viewers won't be privy to future happenings on Wisteria Lane doesn't mean there's any danger of things settling down.

Guns N' Roses' Axl Rose-About rock of hall of fame

Early this morning, Pop & Hiss received a letter from Guns N' Roses co-founder Axl Rose, through his publicist, announcing his decision to not attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday in Cleveland. Written under the greeting, "To The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Guns N' Roses Fans and Whom It May Concern," Rose explained specifically why he was declining his induction into the Cleveland music institution.

The band, born in Los Angeles in 1985, was announced as an inductee in February alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys and Donovan, among others, leading to instant speculation whether the five core members of Guns N' Roses circa "Appetite for Destruction" would appear together for the first time since 1993. Guitarist Slash officially departed the band in 1996, followed soon thereafter by other members Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum (original drummer Steven Adler had left a few years earlier, as had Izzy Stradlin).

Rose retained the rights to the band's name, and over the next decade devoted his time to creating the album "Chinese Democracy," touring with a revived Guns N' Roses, and defiantly dismissing any suggestion of a reunion with the original members of the band.


Since February, Rose has remained mum on his plans, even as guitarist Slash has spoken out in favor of a Rock Hall reunion -- and acknowledging Rose's antipathy. "He hates my guts," Slash told Rolling Stone in early April. "It's over a lot of different stuff; I don't even know. There's just no communication between us. I talk to Duff and Steven, but when it comes to old Guns N' Roses, there really isn't anybody that makes decisions."

In the letter below, Rose specifically criticizes comments by Adler, who speculated to Billboard magazine in 2007 that the band might reunite. Those comments were given by Adler while promoting his own Adler's Appetite tour, which was timed to support his book, "My Appetite for Destruction." "I want to finish what we started," Adler told Billboard then (parentheses and elipses theirs), "and ... with the love and support I got from those guys, I think we can (reunite). I'm gonna leave it up to Axl. That's gonna be Axl's call, and I love Axl and I know he'll make the right call." Below, Rose calls Adler's comments "reunion lies." Continuing attempts to reach Adler have not been successful.

During a December 2011 sit-down interview with Rose after a Guns N' Roses concert in Seattle, the singer had yet to decide his plans, but was uninterested in making a scene at the induction ceremony if he did decide to attend. "I think about it in terms of Marlon Brando getting up at the Academy Awards and talking about Indians ... or when Michael Moore got up at the Academy Awards and said whatever about George Bush. People don’t want that associated with their awards shows, even if you have a big audience. In one way it might be right, but it usually backfires on whoever does it. So I really don’t want to spoil it for everybody else -- and take the beating."

Notably, Rose then laughed and cursed Jann Wenner, the founder, publisher and executive editor of Rolling Stone magazine -- who also co-founded the Hall of Fame in 1983.

    To: The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, Guns N' Roses Fans and Whom It May Concern,

    When the nominations for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame were first announced I had mixed emotions but, in an effort to be positive, wanting to make the most of things for the fans and with their enthusiasm, I was honored, excited and hoped that somehow this would be a good thing. Of course I realized as things stood, if Guns N' Roses were to be inducted it'd be somewhat of a complicated or awkward situation.

    Since then we've listened to fans, talked with members of the board of the Hall Of Fame, communicated with and read various public comments and jabs from former members of Guns N' Roses, had discussions with the president of the Hall Of Fame, read various press (some legit, some contrived) and read other artists' comments weighing in publicly on Guns and the Hall with their thoughts.

    Under the circumstances I feel we've been polite, courteous, and open to an amicable solution in our efforts to work something out. Taking into consideration the history of Guns N' Roses, those who plan to attend along with those the Hall for reasons of their own, have chosen to include in "our" induction (that for the record are decisions I don't agree with, support or feel the Hall has any right to make), and how (albeit no easy task) those involved with the Hall have handled things... no offense meant to anyone but the Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony doesn't appear to be somewhere I'm actually wanted or respected.

    For the record, I would not begrudge anyone from Guns their accomplishments or recognition for such. Neither I or anyone in my camp has made any requests or demands of the Hall Of Fame. It's their show not mine.

    That said, I won't be attending The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction 2012 Ceremony and I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N' Roses to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

    I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized nor may anyone be permitted to accept any induction for me or speak on my behalf. Neither former members, label representatives nor the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame should imply whether directly, indirectly or by omission that I am included in any purported induction of "Guns N' Roses".

    This decision is personal. This letter is to help clarify things from my and my camp's perspective. Neither is meant to offend, attack or condemn. Though unfortunately I'm sure there will be those who take offense (God knows how long I'll have to contend with the fallout), I certainly don't intend to disappoint anyone, especially the fans, with this decision. Since the announcement of the nomination we've actively sought out a solution to what, with all things considered, appears to be a no win, at least for me, "damned if I do, damned if I don't" scenario all the way around.

    In regard to a reunion of any kind of either the Appetite or Illusion lineups, I've publicly made myself more than clear. Nothing's changed.

    The only reason, at this point, under the circumstances, in my opinion whether under the guise of "for the fans" or whatever justification of the moment, for anyone to continue to ask, suggest or demand a reunion are misguided attempts to distract from our efforts with our current lineup of myself, Dizzy Reed, Tommy Stinson, Frank Ferrer, Richard Fortus, Chris Pitman, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal and DJ Ashba.

    Izzy came out with us a few times back in '06 and I invited him to join us at our LA Forum show last year. Steven was at our show at the Hard Rock, later in '06 in Las Vegas, where I invited him to our after-party and was rewarded with his subsequent interviews filled with reunion lies. Lesson learned. Duff joined us in 2010 and again in '11 along with his band, Loaded, opening in Seattle and Vancouver. For me, with the exception of Izzy or Duff joining us on stage if they were so inclined somewhere in the future for a song or two, that's enough.

    There's a seemingly endless amount of revisionism and fantasies out there for the sake of self-promotion and business opportunities masking the actual realities. Until every single one of those generating from or originating with the earlier lineups has been brought out in the light, there isn't room to consider a conversation let alone a reunion.

    Maybe if it were you it'd be different. Maybe you'd do it for this reason or that. Peace, whatever. I love our band now. We're there for each other when the going get's rough. We love our fans and work to give them every ounce of energy and heart we can.

    So let sleeping dogs lie or lying dogs sleep or whatever. Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn't owe you your own personal happy ending especially at another's, or in this case several others', expense.

    But hey if ya gotta then maybe we can get the "no show, grandstanding, publicity stunt, disrespectful, he doesn't care about the fans" crap out of the way as quickly as we can and let's move on. No one's taking the ball and going home. Don't get it twisted. For more than a decade and a half we've endured the double standards, the greed of this industry and the ever present seemingly limitless supply of wannabes and unscrupulous, irresponsible media types. Not to imply anything in this particular circumstance, but from my perspective in regard to both the Hall and a reunion, the ball's never been in our court.

    In closing, regardless of this decision and as hard to believe or as ironic as it may seem, I'd like to sincerely thank the board for their nomination and their votes for Guns' induction. More importantly I'd like to thank the fans for being there over the years, making any success we've had possible and for enjoying and supporting Guns N' Roses music.

    I wish the Hall a great show, congratulations to all the other artists being inducted and to our fans we look forward to seeing you on tour!!

The Dancing with the Stars contestant, who was rushed to the hospital on a stretcher Monday night after performing a paso doble with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Tweeted a health update later.

Former "Little House on the Prairie" star Gilbert was rushed to the hospital during the broadcast of Monday night's "DWTS," after hitting her head on the dance floor during her Paso Doble performance with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, the actress' representative told TheWrap. Following the bump to her head, Gilbert complained of dizziness.Gilbert tweeted later, noting that she's "alright," though she had sustained a mild concussion and whiplash during the incident."I'm alright," Gilbert wrote. "Mild concussion and whiplash. Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of."

Gilbert – whose paso doble with Maksim was her best performance so far in the competition, according to judge Bruno Tonioli – left for the hospital before the end of the two-hour, rock-themed show.

"She injured herself," host Tom Bergeron announced on the air as the couples gathered on the parquet following the performances, "and as a precaution she's gone to the hospital to get checked out."

Her partner is also a bit banged up: "He hurt his elbow during rehearsal doing one of the tricks," his brother Val Chmerkovskiy told PEOPLE. "And now he pulled his groin."

At the age of 54 Thomas Kinkade  is dead. He was a Famed painter .

Kinkade died at his home in Monte Sereno, an affluent enclave near Los Gatos in the San Francisco Bay Area. His family attributed his death to natural causes, and officials have not commented further on the case other than to say that the Santa Clara County coroner will perform the autopsy.
Millions of his paintings and prints hang in homes around the world, popularity that translated to more than $50 million in earnings for the artist from 1997 to 2005 alone. Lauded for his generosity, he once gave an Anaheim, Calif., widow $25,000 worth of his art to replace what she’d lost in a fire. He lived life to the fullest," said Ken Raasch, his former business partner who co-founded Kinkade’s company more than 20 years ago. "He was a very eclectic character, an amazing artist who was not a stereotypical man in any sense. He created his own mold, I’d say, and I think we were all blessed because of that."Kinkade’s fame and fortune, however, were complicated by personal and business struggles.
He was known for his paintings of bucolic pastoral scenes and charming cottages, candlelit images made into calendars and decorative plates that are said to fill one in 20 homes in California. Although the fine-art world often derided his work as tacky, mainstream Americans flocked to his paintings. Kinkade created several hundred Thomas Kinkade Signature Galleries to sell his work. In 2010, the recession took its toll and his Morgan Hill art company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, listing nearly $6.2 million in creditors' claims.
On Monday, the CEO of Kinkade's galleries said in a statement they were overwhelmed by the "outpouring of appreciation and interest in Thom's work.''
"He strived to make his paintings available and affordable to the public and his collectors,'' John Hasting, CEO of The Thomas Kinkade Co., said Monday. "In his honor, we will continue his legacy and do what we can to carry on. The man is already greatly missed by the Kinkade extended family, but we want everyone to know that the galleries will remain open and his images will continue to be marketed worldwide, just as he would have wanted it.''

Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards syndrome, is a condition which is caused by a chromosomal defect. It occurs in about 1 out of every 3000 live births. The numbers increase significantly when early pregnancy losses are factored in that occur in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy.

Children with Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards syndrome, have an extra copy of chromosome 18, which causes symptoms like clenched hands, low birth weight, mental deficiency, small head and jaw and an unusual-shaped chest, according to the National Institutes of Health.

“Most children with Trisomy 18 die in the first three months of life, and only 10 to 20 percent survive past the first year,” said Dr. Robert Marion, Chief of Genetics and Developmental Medicine at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Tests can be done during pregnancy to determine if the child has Trisomy 18. Half of infants with this condition do not survive beyond the first week of life, and the few children who survive to the teenage years have serious medical and developmental problems, according to the National Institutes of Health.

“Those who survive are almost always girls,” said Marion. “The reason for this is that the condition is more lethal in boys, who die intrauterinely.”

Dr. Ronald Crystal, chair of genetic medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City, said the disease is “invariably fatal,” with survival depending on the severity of symptoms and the quality of care. Bella Santorum, 3, is “already an exception,” he said.
